WEST - Women Entrepreneurs in Science & Technology

Program Announcement, October 2001

Title: Barriers, Needs, and Opportunities:

a roundtable discussion exploring entrepreneurship by women with advanced training in science & technology, led by Lisa Dennis, Knowledgence Associates

In keeping with WEST’s mission to help women in science and technology explore their strengths and passions using an entrepreneurial mindset, we present a roundtable discussion that brings focus to the stories, issues and strategies that constitute the real environment that exists for women who have embarked on or are considering embarking on the entrepreneurial path.

Our core membership consists of women who have advanced training (towards or with masters degree or higher in science, mathematics, engineering, medicine, or related fields; or have interests either in exploring entrepreneurship, intrapreneurship, or other non-traditional career paths.

The program will include panelist and audience group discussion for people who:

Have a technology, but have not found viable market opportunities

Have good ideas, even a version of business plan, but aren’t sure of the next steps

Have started a business but do not have many clients – and are wondering how to attract more

Are an entrepreneur-to-be looking for information and guidance

Are a skilled practitioner in venture capital, coaching, consulting, law, accounting, or banking with startup companies in technology

This program is one of a series of WEST programs that work to lower the barriers to the exploration of entrepreneurship/intrapreneurship and other non-traditional careers, and to assist in building a social infrastructure that improves the networking opportunities for women trained in science and engineering.
