As an addendum, I would like to suggest this: Keep separate accounts for your business and your personal. Which is not to say never the twain shall meet, but just think of your audience. Your customers may not always "get" your quirky sense of humor or the oddball music you enjoy. Conversely, your friends may love you for who you are, but may not give a hoot for the business issues that your customers are interested in. General rule: Good social media = RELEVANT content. And relevance is in the eye of the beholder.

I concur with this imperative. The sales and marketing relationship is the toughest to overcome as walls have been established over many years based upon not understanding each others role and responsibility.

If they could agree and work together, the other functions would likely take their example.

I agree with what you say, and I would add to it that great customer service starts before the sale. If you treat a prospect like a valued customer, your odds of actually gaining a paying customer are greatly enhanced.
